In an effort to comply with the World Health Organization’s Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC), many countries are reducing their smoking rates, preventing youth tobacco addiction, and clearing the smoke from indoor environments through progressive comprehensive tobacco control policies. This course will review recent international research findings on the effects of smoking and second hand smoke, especially as these impact maternal, child, and reproductive health. Participants will gather data in community settings, survey tobacco advertising in communities, and develop leadership, communication and media skills to reduce the damaging impacts of tobacco use and second hand smoke exposure to mothers, infants, children, non-smoking workers and other populations.
